Pre-Authorized Debit for your TD Credit Card

Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) from TD gives you the flexibility to pay your TD Credit Card automatically from your TD bank account or from another Canadian financial institution. For added convenience, you can choose to make a minimum monthly payment or pay the full statement balance on the due date.

To set up automatic payments from a TD Personal Account: follow the steps in the TD app or fill out an online form. To set up payments coming from another financial institution, all you’ll need to do is complete a paper form.

How to set up a Pre-Authorized Debit for your TD Credit Card using the TD app

Getting set up is simple. If you’re the primary account holder of a TD Personal Canadian Dollar Chequing Account, Savings Account or a TD US Dollar Account, you can set up, change, or cancel your Pre-Authorized Debit in the TD app. Follow these simple steps to set up an Automatic Payment to pay your TD credit card.

  • Getting started

    Simply open the TD app, select your TD credit card, then click on the “Statements” tab and scroll down to select “Manage Automatic Payments”. From here you can quickly set up or manage payments to your TD credit card.

  • Setting up

    To create automatic payments towards your credit card, choose the account you want to pay from and your payment amount.

  • Review your selections

    Next, carefully review your selections to make sure you’ve chosen the correct credit card you want to pay, along with the correct payment account and payment amount.

  • Confirmation

    Great! Once your automatic payments have been set up correctly, you’ll see a confirmation screen with your choices.

Scan the QR code to download the TD app and set up automatic payments in a few easy steps.


  • Select

    Click “Manage Automatic Payments” from the Statements tab. If you’re using your personal credit card, you can also select the “Manage” tab.

  • Edit

    Select “Edit Automatic Payment” from here you can change the payment amount and the pay-from account

  • Confirm

    Tap "Continue” to confirm your choices

  • Review

    As a final step you’ll see a confirmation screen with a summary of your changes so you can review all the details before returning to your account. 

Note: Please allow 1-2 business days for the changes to reflect your account.


  • Select

    Click “Manage Automatic Payments” from the Statements tab.

  • Request to Cancel

    Select “Cancel Automatic Payment”

  • Confirm

    Tap “Yes, cancel” to confirm your cancellation.

  • Review

    As a final step, you’ll see a confirmation screen with a summary of your cancellation.

Note: Please allow 1-2 business days for the changes to reflect your account.


Only the primary account holder of a TD credit card with an eligible TD Personal Canadian Dollar Chequing Account, Savings Account or a TD US Dollar Account can set up Automatic Payments to pay a personal or business credit card account. For Business Cards, Automatic Payment set up in the TD app is limited to TD personal chequing or savings accounts only.

How to set up a Pre-Authorized Debit for your TD Credit Card via online form

Getting set up is quick and easy. As long as you’re the primary account holder of a TD credit card with an eligible TD Personal Canadian Dollar Chequing Account, Savings Account, or a TD US Dollar Account, you can set up your Pre-Authorized Debit online. Here’s how:

  • Personal TD Canadian Credit Card

    To set up, change or cancel an automatic payment from your TD Canadian Dollar chequing or savings account, complete the online TD PAD form.

  • TD US Dollar Credit Card

    To set up, change or cancel an automatic payment from your TD US Dollar Account, complete the USD online TD PAD form

How to set up a Pre-Authorized Debit for your TD Personal or
Business Credit Card via paper form

If you’re the primary account holder of a Canadian Dollar Chequing Account, Savings Account, or a US Dollar Account, you can set up your TD Pre-Authorized Debit using a paper form. Here’s how:

  • Personal and Business TD Canadian Credit Card

    To set up, change or cancel an automatic payment from your TD Canadian Dollar chequing or savings account or another Canadian financial institution, download and complete the Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) CAD Agreement, and mail or fax it to TD as indicated on the form.

  • TD US Dollar Credit Card

    To set up, change or cancel an automatic payment from a US Dollar chequing or savings account with another Canadian financial institution, download and complete the Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) USD Agreement and mail or fax it to TD as indicated on the form.


What is the difference between a Pre-Authorized Payment (PAP) and a Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) on my TD Credit Card?

A Pre-Authorized Payment (PAP) allows you to arrange automatic monthly payments from your TD Credit Card Account to pay a regularly recurring bill from a merchant.

A Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) allows you to arrange automatic monthly payments to pay your TD Credit Card Account from your deposit account at any Canadian Financial Institution.
