Philosophy and Approach

  • We were among the first to introduce asset allocation portfolios in Canada, pioneering the integration of alternative investments alongside equities and fixed income. Our approach combines three decades of asset allocation experience with new thinking and innovation that can help improve investment outcomes.

  • The strategy uses macro factors to guide the critical asset allocation decision, while rigorous, bottom-up research drives individual security selection. Specifically, we use a disciplined three-point process to manage this strategy:


    Starting with macroeconomics    , monetary and fiscal policy, and global political and social trends, we review recent performance and forecast potential rates of return for each asset class.

    Based on this assessment, we design a target portfolio, with the optimal asset mix to capture those rates of return, keeping the strategy’s objectives in mind.

    We then implement from the bottom-up, using public and proprietary research, and a disciplined selection process for trading the underlying investments within the strategy.

    Since we are active managers, we continually challenge our assumptions, using experienced insight to interpret the latest economic and market trends. Daily market-review meetings flag breaking developments – in general and at the client level.
