Funds Availability & Check Holds FAQs

At TD Bank, check deposits made before the cut-off time, typically 8 p.m. ET on business days (Monday–Friday, excluding federal holidays) are usually processed and available the next business day. Check deposits made after the cut-off time are usually available in two business days. Longer holds may apply. Cash and direct deposits are usually made available immediately. Check out our funds availability digital flyer (PDF) or Small Business funds availability digital flyer (PDF) for more details on store, ATM and electronic deposits.

There are a few reasons why your deposit may be taking longer than you expected to become available. You might experience delays if:

  • You are depositing a check into a new account that's less than 30 days old
  • You are making a deposit more than $5,525 in one day
  • Your account requires extra protection. If this happens, we'll contact you by letter and let you know when your money will be available.

You can review your Personal Deposit Account Agreement (PDF) or Business Deposit Account Agreement (PDF) for details on when longer delays may apply.

There are a couple ways to help prevent certain banking fees from sneaking up on you

  • Link your checking account to a savings account for overdraft protection.
  • Use TD ATMs to avoid an extra withdrawal fee or consider an account that reimburses ATM fees when you maintain the daily balance requirement. Another tip: you can use your debit card to get cash back when making in-store purchases if you can't make it to a TD ATM.

*Cash deposits made at a TD Bank ATM on the business day your account is opened will not be available until the first (1st) business day after the date of your deposit.

1For deposits made on Saturday, Sunday or a federal holiday, add an additional business day when estimating funds availability. If a deposit is made on a business day followed by a Saturday, Sunday or a federal holiday, funds may still be made available on the following day.

2 In some cases, funds deposited by check may be delayed for a longer period than our Standard Funds Availability.  If you've deposited checks totaling more than $5,525 in one day, the first $100 is immediately available, an additional $5,425 will be available no later than the first (1st) business day after the date of deposit, and the remainder may be held up to seven (7) business days from the date of deposit. If a hold is placed because we have reason to believe a check may be uncollectible, the full amount of the check may be held up to seven (7) business days from the date of deposit. This hold supersedes any prior availability provided to you, including the initial $100 provided on the date of deposit. Please refer to the Funds Availability Section of the Personal Deposit Account Agreement for additional information.
